He's done. It appears as if the Edwards Campaign has decided that they are going to start accepting matching funds .
Not only that but his campaign says they only expect to raise $7-8 million this quarter. That is pathetic. I don't care about how much support he has with the netroots, or how some think he is the only one that can win a general election. As soon as he takes those matching funds, he would go into the general election with both hands tied behind his back.
I hate this money race as much as the next guy, but let's face it, if you don't have the chips at the table to play, you're not going to be very effective. I don't care if you had to beg, borrow, or steal for it. No flow? Then go.
And who is the government to say how much you can "bet" on a particular state? When he accepts those funds he is going to have to limit his spending in Iowa to $1.5 million, and $850,000 in New Hampshire. I just can't see when being outspent 10 to 1 by Clinton and Obama that he can seriously compete.
I like John Edwards, I really do. But I do not want my nominee no matter who it is, being held to different rules than his Republican opponent simply because he couldn't raise the scratch needed to compete. Edwards likes to say about Hillary that she has learned if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. That he still believes we can beat 'em.
No John that's not the way it works. You have to join 'em, beat 'em at their own game. Then change the rules. Unfortunately with the decision you made today you won't be able to beat 'em.
